The Supreme Court has rejected Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s request to extend his interim bail. Kejriwal had asked for a seven-day extension due to health issues. However, the Supreme Court Registry did not accept his application. They said he could ask the trial court for regular bail instead.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court questioned Kejriwal’s lawyer, Abhishek Malhotra, about why this request was not mentioned when Justice Dipankar Dutta heard the case last week. Kejriwal was given interim bail on May 10 for 21 days and was supposed to surrender to jail authorities on June 2.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Denied :
Kejriwal’s request for an extension to his bail was denied. Now, he must return to Tihar Jail on June 2nd, as per the conditions of his interim bail.
Previously, Kejriwal was being investigated and had been in Tihar Jail after being taken into custody. He asked for interim bail to campaign for the elections. The Supreme Court considered this an extraordinary situation and granted him interim bail, allowing him to continue with his campaign.
Kejriwal’s Campaign Continuation :
Arvind Kejriwal was given permission to continue with his election campaigning. This happened during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. At that time, two major states still needed to vote: Delhi and Punjab. Both states are strong supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party.
Arvind Kejriwal, the party’s chief, was allowed to keep campaigning. That’s why he was issued an interim bill. During his campaign, Kejriwal often said, “I know I will be going back to jail on June 2nd, but if you want to see me out, then vote for Aam Aadmi Party.” This became his main slogan.
Now, let’s look at what happened after that.
After that, he asked for a 7-day extension on his interim bail, citing medical reasons. Arvind Kejriwal, who has diabetes and had a stroke, was unwell while in prison. He received medical care because his blood pressure dropped. For these reasons, he requested the extension.
However, the Supreme Court rejected his request. Kejriwal will have to surrender on June 2nd as the court continues its trial regarding the liquidation scam.
AAP Leaders Under Investigation :
This is the particular scene, the entire news that we are taking a look at, Arvind Kejriwal expected to go back to Tihar jail on June 2nd. Remember the liquor gate scam is one that he’s being investigated in and he’s not the only person who’s being investigated in this particular case. Other Aam Aadmi Party stalwarts including Satyendra Jain, Ganesh continued to be behind the bars. Sanjay Singh, the MP had also been in prison but then he was also granted bail in a particular situation, in a particular case.
But before that, considering all four of them had been a part of this entire investigation, they were all put behind bars, but they were all being probed into the matter. Remember Manish Sisodia’s bail plea was also tried in the court recently.
Kejriwal’s Interim Bail :
Arvind Kejriwal is currently out on interim bail but must return to Tihar Jail on June 2nd. The Liquorgate scam came to light earlier, and Kejriwal received multiple summons from the ED, which he ignored, calling them politically motivated. Finally, in March, the ED took him into custody.
A big question in court is still about the money trail involved. K. Kavita from the BRS in the South is also in custody for the same case. She faces trial and charges related to this matter.
While these are some of the main political figures behind bars, Kejriwal is temporarily out on bail.and he had asked for an extension for seven more days after June 2nd which now which is the breaking news the Supreme Court has cancelled and has rejected and has said that the extension plea shall not be maintained.
