• Increased buying means more packages shipped. Experts suggest using Amazon’s ‘ship everything in one box’ option to cut greenhouse gas emissions. It also earns buyers Amazon credits.

• irginia Tech’s Md Sami Hasine, expert in transportation and infrastructure engineering, has studied Amazon’s e-commerce demand. “Medium and heavy-duty freight trucks produce 7% of U.S. greenhouse gases,” he says. “More deliveries mean more emissions and road congestion.”

• Hasine proposes supermarkets and online stores predict demand with machine-learning. “Instead of many trips, get one or two deliveries per month.”

Amazon Prime Day is a big event for scammers, experts warn

• Reports of phishing attempts have been on the rise, with the Better Business Bureau noting a record number of incidents in 2023, and continued upward trends in 2024. Check Point Software Technologies reported over 1,230 new suspicious websites associated with Amazon appearing in June alone.

• Scott Knapp, from Amazon, highlighted common scams seen during Prime Day, including fake order confirmations and membership issues. These scams often aim to gather personal and financial information from unsuspecting consumers.

• Experts advise consumers to verify messages and purchases directly through Amazon’s official platforms to avoid falling victim to these schemes. They also stress the importance of skepticism towards unsolicited communications and urge reporting suspicious activities to authorities.

• Additionally, consumers should be cautious of counterfeit products and fake reviews, particularly on large online marketplaces like Amazon. Despite efforts to combat these issues, counterfeit products continue to pose a significant challenge.

• Overall, as consumers shop during Prime Day and similar events, vigilance and awareness are crucial to protect against scams and counterfeit goods that may jeopardize personal information and shopping experiences.
