Apple new update WWDC 2024 is a special time each year when we celebrate our global developer community. Developers keep surprising us with the amazing apps they make for our products. These apps are used by over a billion people worldwide. It’s important for us to give this community the newest tools and technologies so they can do their best work.
Today, we have some incredible updates for our platforms. We’re also introducing new intelligence capabilities that we hope will inspire developers, delight users, and make our platforms smarter and more useful than ever.
Apple TV Plus :
Before we dive into our platforms, let’s talk about Apple TV+, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.
Apple TV Plus offers top-notch entertainment with shows and movies from the world’s best storytellers. For three years, it has been recognized for its high-quality originals. These shows and movies have won awards like Oscars, Emmys, and BAFTAs.
This past year, Apple TV Plus released popular movies like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. It also introduced hit shows like Masters of the Air, Pom Royale, Hijack, Dark Matter, and Monarch Legacy of Monsters.
Exciting new originals are coming to Apple TV Plus every week. This lineup looks amazing. I hope you’re as excited about these Apple Originals as I am. Now, let’s talk about our platforms.
Let’s talk about our platforms. There’s a lot to cover today. We’ll begin with our OS news and then discuss intelligence.
First up is our new operating system, Vision OS. We launched Apple Vision Pro in February and have some exciting updates. Here’s Mike to tell you more.
Apple new update Apple Vision Pro :
Apple Vision Pro and Vision OS bring new ways to enjoy entertainment, work, and teamwork. Developers are creating special apps for Vision Pro that you can’t find anywhere else. For example, you can watch multiple live NBA games with stats or become a superhero in the Marvel universe with the app What if. UnXtinct lets you explore endangered species.
There are games that use your space to fully immerse you, challenge you in new ways, or let you play with friends even if you’re not together. You can also learn meditation with Poe from Kung Fu Panda or make your data come alive with SAP. Doctors can use it for surgical simulation and planning.
New apps from big names in entertainment, productivity, and gaming keep arriving on the App Store. There are already over 2,000 apps just for Apple Vision Pro and more than one and a half million iPhone and iPad apps that work with it.
All these apps are possible because of Vision OS. It’s only been four months since Vision Pro and Vision OS launched, and now we’re announcing our first major update: Vision OS 2.
(Apple new update) Introducing visionOS 2 :
Introducing Vision OS 2. This update makes spatial computing even better. It helps you connect with important memories, boosts productivity, and gives developers new tools for shared experiences. Haley will tell you more.
Vision OS 2 has some big updates. Let’s start with photos. Spatial computing changes how you see your photos. Seeing them life-size is amazing. Spatial photos make your favorite moments with family and friends feel real. You can step back into a treasured memory with rich visual depth.
Now, Vision OS 2 lets you turn your old photos into spatial photos with just a tap. Advanced machine learning creates a left and right eye view from your 2D image, making it look stunning on Vision Pro. It’s like bringing your cherished photos into the future.
You can also share panoramas and spatial photos and videos with loved ones using SharePlay in the Photos app. With new spatial personas, it feels like they are right next to you, even if they’re far away.
People love how easy it is to use Vision Pro with their eyes, hands, and voice. Vision OS 2 makes it even easier. Just hold up your hand to open home view or flip your hand to see the time and battery level. Tap again to open Control Center for quick access to features like notifications and Mac virtual display.
Mac virtual display lets you bring your Mac wirelessly into Vision Pro, giving you a large, private 4K display. Later this year, it will have higher resolution and size. It can expand into an ultra-wide display, like two 4K monitors side by side. Your content stays sharp wherever you look.
Vision Pro is also great for travel. You can take a private movie theater on a plane. With Vision OS 2, we’re adding train support to Travel Mode so you can work or watch shows on a massive screen during your commute.
These updates will make the Vision Pro experience even better.Vision OS 2 Developer Tools :
Vision OS 2 has many new features that make it easier for developers to create cool spatial apps. There are new tools and APIs, like advanced volumetric APIs, which help run complex 3D apps side-by-side. Tabletop Kit lets developers quickly make apps that work on flat surfaces, perfect for workstations or games, and great for FaceTime.
There are also special APIs for businesses, like those for surgical training in healthcare and equipment maintenance in manufacturing. These new tools give developers lots of chances to make unique experiences.
Creating new spatial content for Apple Vision Pro is now simpler too. With the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, you can easily capture spatial videos anywhere. These videos help you relive important moments and can be used by professional videographers for storytelling. Canon will offer a new lens for their EOS R7 camera to record beautiful spatial videos, even in tough lighting. You can edit these videos in Final Cut Pro on a Mac and share them using the Vimeo app for Vision OS.
Last year, Apple introduced Apple Immersive Video, a new entertainment format just for Vision Pro. These are 180-degree 8K recordings with spatial audio that make you feel like you’re really there. To help creators make their own Apple Immersive Videos, Apple partnered with Blackmagic Design to create a new production workflow using Blackmagic Cameras, DaVinci Resolve Studio, and Apple Compressor.
New Apple Immersive Video content is coming too, including an Extreme Sports series with Red Bull, experiences from artists like The Weeknd, and a short film called “Submerged” from an Oscar-winning director. These titles and more will be on the TV app. Vision OS 2 brings new features like turning your favorite photos into spatial photos, new gestures, a big productivity boost with Mac virtual display, and powerful new developer tools. Now, back to Tim.
We’re excited to keep improving Vision OS 4 and adding new features for Apple Vision Pro. People from all over the world are showing interest in this amazing product. So, I’m happy to announce that Apple Vision Pro will be available in eight more countries soon. It will launch in China, Japan, and Singapore on June 28th, and in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom on July 12th.
Apple new update iOS 18 :
iOS 18 is a big update that brings more ways to customize your iPhone, stay connected, and relive special moments. Let’s start with the new features for personalizing your iPhone, especially your home screen.
You can already choose your favorite wallpaper, apps, and widgets to make your home screen unique. Now, you can do even more. For example, you can arrange your apps and widgets to frame a favorite photo perfectly. You can place them at the bottom or off to the side for easy access.
There’s also a cool new look for app icons in dark mode. When you turn it on, the icons change color. Plus, you can use a new customization sheet to tint them with any color you like. iOS will suggest colors that match your wallpaper or you can pick your own. This makes it easy to create just the right look for your home screen.
Control Center has also been improved. When you swipe from the top right corner, you see all your controls in one place. Now, Control Center has multiple groups of controls, like media playback and home controls. You can swipe through these groups easily.
To add more controls, you can open the new Controls Gallery with many options to choose from. Developers can now include controls from their apps in Control Center too.
With iOS 18, customizing your iPhone is easier and more fun than ever!
Ford has a new feature you can add. You can adjust and resize your controls easily. Now, you can cool down the car just like that. This is the new Control Center.
To enable new controls in Control Center, there’s a new Controls API for developers. These controls are also available from the lock screen. You can switch the camera and flashlight for different controls, like taking a note or capturing a moment for Snapchat. You can even use the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro for these controls.
Personalizing iOS also means keeping your privacy in check. iOS 18 gives you more ways to control who sees your apps, how you share contacts, and how you connect to accessories.
Let’s start with apps. Sometimes we let someone use our device to look at a photo or play a game, but we worry about them accessing sensitive areas. Now, you can lock an app. If someone tries to open it, they need Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. Information inside the app won’t appear in other places like Search and Notifications.
You might also want to hide an app that you don’t want others to see. For example, if you use an app to track your hairstyles, you can now hide it in a locked hidden apps folder.
We’re adding new ways to control how you share information with apps, starting with contacts. In iOS 18, you decide which contacts an app can see.
When pairing accessories, an app may ask for Bluetooth and local network access but also see all other devices on your network. Now, developers offer a new way to pair accessories that keeps your devices private and makes pairing easy.
Next up are big improvements to the apps we use to stay connected.
Messaging and Mail Updates: Next, we have big updates to the apps we use to stay connected, starting with Messages. Ronak will tell you more. Messages is key to how we talk to important people in our lives. In iOS 18, we have new ways for you to express yourself and stay connected.
First, let’s talk about tapbacks. Tapbacks are a popular way to show feelings in Messages. This year, we’ve redesigned your favorites and added new options. Now, you can use any emoji or sticker as a tapback.
Next, we’re adding a feature you’ve been asking for: scheduling messages. You can set a time to send a friendly reminder or birthday text later.
We’re also giving you new text formatting options. You can make your text bold, italicized, underlined, or struck through. Plus, we’re adding text effects to make your messages stand out. If you want to highlight big news or make an emoji come alive, text effects will help.
Some words and phrases will automatically suggest effects for quick selection. You can add these effects to any text.
Lastly, there’s a new way to stay connected without Wi-Fi or cellular service. Using the same technology as Emergency SOS via Satellite, we bring you Messages via Satellite. With iPhone 14 and later, you can connect to satellites and text friends and family when you’re off the grid. You’ll be able to use key iMessage features like sending messages, emojis, and tapbacks with end-to-end encryption for privacy. SMS messaging via Satellite is also supported if needed.
Now let’s talk about Mail. This year, we’re helping you manage incoming emails with on-device categorization. Your emails will be sorted into categories like transactions for receipts and updates for newsletters.
The primary category focuses on important emails from people you know and time-sensitive messages. Other emails go into categories like promotions for marketing messages.
We’ve also created a new Digest view that gathers all relevant emails from businesses in one place. For example, it can pull together all your flight info from an airline so you can find it easily.
This makes interacting with your emails simpler and more organized. You can see all your messages in one place. You can quickly scan snippets to find what’s new and interesting. If you want to move a message to another category, you can do it with a few taps. Archiving or deleting messages from a business is just as easy. And, of course, you can always view all your emails in one place. Categorization will be available later this year.
Maps :Let’s start with Maps. Maps now has new topographic maps with detailed trails and hiking routes. It includes all 63 U.S. national parks, which you can save to your phone and use offline. You also get turn-by-turn voice guidance and can create your own hikes.
Wallet: Next, let’s talk about Wallet. We are making it easier to replace your physical wallet with Tap-to-Cash. This feature lets you quickly and privately exchange Apple Cash without sharing phone numbers or email addresses. You can pay someone back for dinner just by holding your phones together.
We are also adding two new ways to pay with Apple Pay Online. Now, customers worldwide can redeem rewards and access installments from their banks and card providers.
Event tickets are getting a fresh look with new features. The new design includes an event guide with helpful information about the venue and smart recommendations from your favorite Apple apps.
Journal :The journal now lets you log your mood and track your goals. It shows your writing streaks, a calendar, and other fun stats. You can also use search to quickly find past entries. Plus, there are exciting updates with great improvements for gamers.
Exciting Updates for iPhone Gamers : We’re excited to announce an update with great improvements for gamers. Game Mode is coming to iPhone, making games like Zenless Zone Zero more immersive. Just like on Mac, Game Mode reduces background activity to keep the highest frame rates, especially during long play sessions. It also improves responsiveness with AirPods and wireless game controllers.
Revamped Photos in iOS 18 :Photos. Our photo libraries hold all the big and small moments in our lives. But as we take more pictures and our libraries get bigger, how can we keep everything organized to enjoy those moments and find the best ones easily?
The new Photos app keeps your library tidy and helps you find pictures quickly. This way, you spend less time searching and more time enjoying your memories.
The design is beautiful and easy to use, making everything you need just a tap away. The app shows your photos in a grid at the top, with your library organized by themes below. You can view your whole library in the photo grid or jump to specific dates using the months and years views at the bottom.
If you have a lot of photos, the filter button helps you narrow it down to specific types of content. You can even filter out screenshots to keep things neat. To help keep everything organized, there’s a space below the grid called collections. Here, you can browse photos by topics like time, people, favorite memories, trips, and more.
Recent days organize photos by each day and filter out clutter like receipts. You can see an auto-playing view of today’s photos at the top and swipe between days to see past events like yesterday’s hike. You can also view photos as a collage and share them easily.
To find pictures of specific people, go to people and pets. It now includes groups of your favorite people. For example, here’s me with my husband Don and my best friends. The new trip section gathers all your travel memories in one place and auto-plays them for easy browsing.
Photos is customizable so you can highlight the topics that matter most to you. You can reorder collections to put them in your preferred order. I’ve pinned my frequently accessed collections like favorites, recent saves, places I’ve been, and my favorite climbs.
There’s also a new carousel feature that highlights your best content in a poster-like view when you swipe right from the grid. It shows photos you’ve marked as favorites and featured photos picked by the app.The app also shows featured photos, which you can customize. For example, I’ve added my favorite trip to Crater Lake. Each day, the app surprises you with new photos to enjoy. That’s a quick look at the new Photos app.
iOS 18 is a big update for iPhones. It lets you customize your phone more, stay connected in messages and mail, and has better privacy features. The photos app got a huge redesign to make it easier to look back at special moments. There are also larger icons on the home screen, RCS messaging support, and reminders integrated into the calendar.

To make sure your voice sounds clear, we’re adding voice isolation to AirPods Pro. This feature uses advanced technology to remove background noise, giving you the best call quality.
Enhanced Gaming Audio : AirPods are great for gaming because of their amazing sound quality. To make this even better, we’re adding personalized spatial audio for games. This will make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. We’ve created a new tool for game developers to easily add this feature. We’re excited to share that Need for Speed Mobile by Tencent Games and EA will be one of the first games with personalized spatial audio this fall.
TV Viewing Upgrades : This year, we have some updates to make watching TV more fun. First, let’s talk about those times when you wonder, “Where have I seen this actor before?” or “What’s that song?” We have a new feature on Apple TV+ called Insight. When watching an Apple original show or movie, just swipe down on the remote. Insight will show the actors and their character names in real-time. If you’re curious about a song, you can see the track and add it to an Apple Music playlist to enjoy later. Insight works with your iPhone as a remote too, which is great for watching with friends.
Clearer TV Audio :Next, let’s talk about the audio on tvOS. We’re adding Enhanced Dialogue to more living rooms. It will work with TV speakers, receivers, AirPods, and other Bluetooth devices. Enhanced Dialogue now uses machine learning for clearer voices, making sure you always hear the actors’ words clearly. We’re making subtitles easier to use.
