Shaji Kailas Returns with ‘Hunt’: Bhavana Stars in Supernatural Horror After Series of Box Office Flops
Shaji Kailas’ movies are popular with fans who enjoy big, dramatic heroes, long speeches, flashy action scenes, and dramatic camera work. However, the director hasn’t had a big hit in a while, despite some recent successes like Kaduva and Kappa.
Now, Kailas is back with a new film, Hunt, starring Bhavana, whom he last worked with in the 2005 film Chinthamani Kolacase. This time, Kailas is exploring supernatural horror with a script by Nikhil Anand. In Hunt, Bhavana plays Dr. Keerthi, a forensic medicine student who gets caught up in a murder investigation after discovering a woman’s body in a concrete-filled bin. As she works to uncover the truth, she begins to sense a mysterious presence around her.
‘Hunt’ Review: Bhavana Shines in a Supernatural Thriller That Fails to Captivate
The director has chosen a female lead for a change, and the early scenes in Hunt are engaging with good pacing and buildup. However, the film quickly loses its grip, and viewers’ interest fades. Despite introducing many characters and creating an eerie atmosphere with a strong soundtrack, the story and characters fail to draw the audience in.
Bhavana and the other actors, including Chandunath, Anu Mohan, and others, perform well, but there are no standout moments in the film. As the story unfolds, it becomes less interesting, especially when the motive behind the woman’s disappearance is revealed.
The film includes elements of parapsychology and spirits, which could have made for an intriguing horror thriller, but it falls short. The attempts at a thrilling climax also miss the mark. Hunt may be worth watching once for horror fans, but don’t expect it to be particularly memorable.
