Superintendent of Police Raigad, Somnath Gharge, stated that travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar survived after falling into a gorge and was rescued. Unfortunately, she passed away during the treatment.

Aanvi Kamdar, a 27-year-old chartered accountant and content creator from Mumbai, tragically lost her life during a trip to Maharashtra’s Raigad district. While with seven friends on a monsoon outing near Kumbhe waterfall at Mangao, she fell into a 300-foot-deep gorge while filming a video on Tuesday. where is kumbhe waterfall ?

It lies in the Mangaon Taluka of Raigad. The nearest railway station to Kumbhe waterfall is Mangaon Railway station. Taking bus or a train one can easily reach Mangaon from both Mumbai (140 kms) & pune side (110 kms).

Mangaon to Kumbhe waterfall ( 23 Kms ) using Public transport: From Mangaon one can get ST bus to Kumbhe at 9 am & 230 pm ( a local gave this info which I have not validated). Also there are sharing rickshaws available which will take Rs 50 one side. A complete taxi can be booked for about Rs 400.

From Pune side one will cross Tamhini Ghat to reach Mangaon & can get down at Nizampur ( a stop before Mangaon ) from where you can get local transport to reach Kumbhe.

Kumbhe waterfall by personal vehicle: This is my preferred mode of transport as the place is too far away from both Mumbai & Pune and cut journey by local transport would take up lot of time. By personal vehicle just put in Kumbhe waterfall on Google maps (location) & enjoy the ride.

How long is the Kumbhe waterfall trek ?

Getting to Kumbhe waterfall takes a long time, as mentioned earlier, because it’s far from both Mumbai and Pune. However, once you arrive, you can park your car and immediately see the waterfall. It only takes 5 minutes to reach the top of the waterfall and 15 minutes to get to the Kumbhe waterfall viewpoint for a front-facing view. If you’re here just for the scenery, you can explore Kumbhe waterfall in one hour. But if you’re an experienced trekker and decide to hike to the DOME, it will take an additional 90 minutes round-trip.

Is Kumbhe Waterfall Difficult for beginners?

At Kumbhe waterfall, your vehicle can take you directly to the top where you can enjoy a picnic-like setting and see the upper part of the waterfall. To view the entire Kumbhe waterfall, you need to go to the Kumbhe waterfall viewpoint, which is 1 km away and accessible by car. This spot is very easy and suitable for beginners and families.

There’s also another viewpoint gaining popularity, known as “The Dome,” featured in a South Indian film called Varisu starring Vijay. From here, you can get a closer look at the waterfall. To reach The Dome, you have to descend through a route that I find difficult, risky, and best avoided. There are two routes: a red one with loose rocks and slippery conditions (similar to a waterfall path), and an orange one, slightly less risky but still challenging and slippery. It takes about 45 minutes to descend, but I strongly advise against attempting these routes unless you’re an experienced trekker.

It could lead to negative attention for the waterfall and possibly stricter rules for visitors, so plan your visit carefully.
