Elizabeth Taylor had four children: Michael Wilding Jr., Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd, and Maria McKeown. She saw them as her closest friends.

Taylor first became a mom in 1953 when Michael Wilding Jr. was born during her marriage to British actor Michael Wilding. They had another son, Christopher, in 1955, but divorced two years later. In 1957, she had a daughter, Liza Todd, with her next husband, Mike Todd. By the time she married Richard Burton in 1964, she was in the process of adopting her youngest child, Maria McKeown.

Despite her famous career, Taylor said her children were her greatest achievement. They are now grown and continue to honor her memory. Many of her grandchildren are involved in her charity work, including the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

Taylor’s lawyer and close friend, Barbara Berkowitz, shared that family was very important to her. She always made sure to spend holidays with her loved ones and keep the family close.

Here’s a look at Elizabeth Taylor’s four children: Michael, Christopher, Liza, and Maria.

Michael Wilding Jr. was born on January 6, 1953, in Santa Monica, California, to Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Wilding. He spent much of his childhood in Europe.

In the 1970s, he became a father, having two daughters, Laela and Naomi Wilding. In the 1980s, he had a successful acting career, appearing in shows like Guiding Light and Dallas, and in the film Deadly Illusion. He married Brooke Palance in 1982, and they had a son, Tarquin Wilding, in 1989.

Michael’s children spent a lot of time with their grandmother, Elizabeth Taylor. Naomi said in 2021 that Taylor felt it was important to pass on family values to the younger generations. Laela also mentioned in 2016 that family was very important to Taylor, and they all remained close despite living far apart.

Michael is now a sculptor living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his wife. He finds inspiration in how nature shapes the environment and enjoys creating sculptures that convey fluidity and movement.

All three of Michael’s children are involved with the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, honoring their grandmother’s legacy. Tarquin said in 2017 that they feel lucky to be part of such a caring family and are grateful to continue Taylor’s work. Michael has said that his mother’s legacy will always be remembered and cherished.

Christopher Wilding, Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Wilding’s second son, was born on February 27, 1955.

Taylor tried hard to keep her children out of the media spotlight. Christopher once said that his mother did her best to protect them from the attention, even though they sometimes couldn’t avoid the paparazzi.

In 1981, Christopher married oil heiress Aileen Getty, and they had two sons: Caleb in 1983 and Andrew in 1984. They divorced in 1989, and Christopher later married Margaret Carlton, with whom he had a son, Lowell, in 1992.

Christopher has worked as a photographer and a sound editor for movies like Tombstone and Overboard. He is now retired and lives with his wife in Calabasas, California.

Christopher said that while people often focused on his mother’s beauty, he believes she would have been most proud of her charitable work if she were here today.

Liza Todd, 66 years old

Elizabeth “Liza” Todd, born on August 6, 1957, is Elizabeth Taylor’s first daughter and only child with her husband Mike Todd.

When Liza was a baby, her father died in a plane crash, leaving Taylor to care for three young children. Taylor later married Richard Burton, who adopted Liza. As a child, Liza went to boarding school in Switzerland but also spent time on movie sets with her mother.

Liza pursued a career in art, studying at Hornsey College of Art in London and the Art Institute in Los Angeles. She now lives in upstate New York and is known for her sculptures, especially those featuring horses.

Liza married artist Hap Tivey in 1984, and they had two sons: Quinn in 1986 and Rhys in 1990. The couple has since divorced.

Quinn is involved with the House of Taylor and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, continuing his grandmother’s work in fighting HIV/AIDS. He wrote in 2021 that he is proud to help carry on her legacy and believes she would be proud of the work being done.

Maria McKeown, 63 years old

Before marrying Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor was in the process of adopting Maria McKeown, who was born on January 8, 1961. Burton later adopted Maria as well.

Maria tried modeling when she was younger but mostly kept a low profile. She married Richard Carson, and they had a daughter, Elizabeth “Eliza” Carson, in 1982. After their divorce, Maria married Thomas McKeown, and they had a son, Richard McKeown, in 2001. They also divorced.

Inspired by her grandmother, Eliza now works as an ambassador for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
