Prince Harry’s Memoir Spare Hits Paperback — With a Surprising Twist!
Prince Harry’s explosive memoir Spare is storming back onto shelves in a brand-new format this fall!
On August 27, Penguin Random House dropped the bombshell announcement that the Duke of Sussex’s sensational book will hit U.S. stores in paperback on October 22. According to The Bookseller, this electrifying release will also be unleashed in the U.K. on October 24.
While it’s typical for paperback editions to include new chapters or extra content, Penguin Random House has confirmed that the paperback version of Spare will remain “unchanged.” This choice to keep the content identical is widely seen as a move towards mending fences with the royal family.
The paperback release of Spare is poised to coincide with King Charles and Queen Camilla’s highly anticipated tour of Australia and Samoa later this year. Buckingham Palace announced in July that the royal couple will embark on this tour this fall, with Samoa hosting the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting from October 21 to October 26.
King Charles, aged 75, serves as the head of the Commonwealth, making this meeting a significant occasion for him to make a notable appearance during his first official tour of Commonwealth nations since his reign began in September 2022.
Prince Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, has remained notably strained since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their royal duties in the U.K. in 2020. Following their departure, the couple relocated to Meghan’s home state of California. The release of their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan in December 2022, followed closely by the publication of Spare in January 2023, further intensified the trust issues within the royal family.
Penguin Random House has announced that the paperback edition of Spare will retain the same cover design as the hardcover version but will come with a “newly designed package.” This edition will be released in a total of 16 languages globally. In North America, the paperback will be distributed by Random House US and Random House Canada, while Transworld will handle the release in the U.K.
Since its initial publication on January 10, 2023, Spare quickly became a global sensation, selling over 6 million copies worldwide. It achieved a Guinness World Record for the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time, according to the publisher.
