Skoda,The brand is also looking into the option of putting together the Elroq here in India, just like they are with the Enyaq.
Skoda India is considering introducing the Elroq electric SUV in India, along with the Enyaq iV which is already set to launch. They are also looking into assembling both electric vehicles locally here. The Elroq is expected to be revealed globally later this year and will be available in Europe from early 2025. If the feasibility study goes well, Skoda might begin assembling these SUVs in India by the end of 2025.
Skoda Explores Local Production for Enyaq and Elroq in India
Skoda India’s brand director Petr Janeba mentioned that the Enyaq and Elroq share a similar platform with some differences in chassis. This similarity allows for efficient parts and components management, which Skoda has calculated.
Currently, Skoda is considering whether to join the government’s EV manufacturing policy announced in March. This policy requires companies to build EV manufacturing facilities in India within three years and begin commercial production. Participating companies can import a limited number of cars at reduced customs duties as an incentive, with a minimum investment requirement of Rs 4,150 crore.
Being part of this policy would help Skoda meet Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFÉ) targets and allow them to import certain niche EVs at a lower customs duty rate of 15 percent, similar to completely knocked down (CKD) models. If Skoda decides not to participate, they will initially focus on introducing EVs in limited quantities, starting with the Enyaq model.
Skoda’s Enyaq and Elroq: A Brief Overview
The Enyaq iV uses VW Group’s MEB platform made for electric vehicles, also used in models like the Volkswagen ID.4 and Audi Q4 e-tron. It’s nearly the size of the Skoda Kodiaq but with two rows of seating. Skoda showcased it at the Bharat Mobility Show in India. The version we might get is the Enyaq iV 80x, which has a 77kWh battery, dual motors for AWD, and 265hp. It supports fast charging and can travel up to 513km on a full charge.
The Elroq hasn’t been fully revealed yet, but Skoda recently shared some details. It will be about 4.2 meters long and will introduce Skoda’s new Modern Solid design. The Elroq will come in four versions: Elroq 50, 60, 85, and 85x, offering different battery sizes and power outputs from 168hp to 295hp. It will have three battery options—55kWh, 63kWh, and 82kWh—with choices for rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Skoda claims it will have a range of over 560km on a single charge.
