Sophia is smart and keeps warning people about the danger, but no one listens to her. It’s strange how people act in this movie. Sophia has a sad backstory that comes up again with this new threat.
The plot isn’t the main focus here. It’s about sharks swimming in the water and people being in danger. The movie slowly builds up intensity and fear. When it gets bloody and violent, it really does. From the opening scene with a limb floating in the water, you know there will be shocking moments.
This movie is entertaining if you like creature features. While it’s not on the level of Jaws (my favorite), it’s still exciting when sharks are involved!
Shark Thrills and Fails : Under Paris
The plot doesn’t matter much. This movie is about sharks swimming in the water. When people are in the water, you feel intense fear building up slowly. It’s exciting and entertaining to watch sharks and people together because you know something crazy will happen. When it gets bloody, it’s really bloody. When it gets violent, it’s very violent.
From the opening scene, when you see a limb floating in the water, you know there will be shocking moments like that. It’s a creature feature, but not as good as Jaws. Still, it’s entertaining, even if sometimes it’s unintentionally funny because the script can be dumb and the characters make silly decisions.
I’ll be honest with you: Under Paris is not a good film. It doesn’t feel cinematic and is better suited for Netflix. It’s like a TV movie. The performances are okay, but some characters and their dialogue are just bad.
Sometimes movies know what they’re doing, but I don’t think Under Paris does. It tries to be epic and serious at times, but it just doesn’t work. The beginning and the last 25 minutes with shark attacks are entertaining, but the rest of the film is just buildup with repetitive nonsense.
The only standout thing about this movie is sharks in water pulling people down. There’s something weird going on with their reproductive system since they’re all female. You might watch this movie or you might stop caring halfway through.
Even with all its problems, there’s something about this movie that keeps you watching, maybe just for the sharks.
Flawed Fun
This movie has some clear problems, mainly because of its poor script, even though the concept is cool. There is some entertainment value, so if you like these types of movies, you might enjoy it. For example, Crawl did a better job with a similar idea by having more interesting characters.
The characters in this movie weren’t very engaging, even the main character and her struggles at the beginning didn’t make me care much. We all have guilty pleasures in the horror genre, and while this movie is more of a thriller, it’s not one of my favorites. However, I can see how some people might find it fun.
The visuals are inconsistent. The movie has a glossy look that doesn’t feel cinematic. But I did like how bright the underwater scenes were; you could see everything clearly. The special effects for the sharks were also hit or miss. Some moments looked great and felt real, especially when they cut open a shark. Overall, the visuals were more good than bad.
Despite the decent visuals, the story is still bad. I would classify this movie as bad but one that people might still enjoy watching for fun. Even if the movie doesn’t realize we’re laughing at it rather than with it, that’s still entertainment.
