Travis Scott’s Miami Arrest: New Bodycam Footage Revealed
Rapper Expresses Fear Over Police Presence
Newly released bodycam footage shows rapper Travis Scott expressing fear over the large police presence during his trespassing arrest in Miami, Florida, in June. The footage, obtained by NBC South Florida, captures the 33-year-old rapper, known for hits like “Sicko Mode,” getting loud and agitated with officers at the Miami Beach Marina shortly before 1 a.m. on June 20.
Incident at Miami Beach Marina
Scott, whose real name is Jacques Webster, was handcuffed after police responded to a report of a disturbance on a yacht. When officers arrived at the marina, they found Scott standing by the dock and yelling at the occupants of one of the boats. The confrontation led to Scott’s arrest on charges of misdemeanor trespassing and public intoxication.
Details of the Boat Dispute
According to Scott, he had rented the boat for $20,000 but was kicked out by the captain for staying beyond the agreed rental time. Scott told the officers that he was in a room with a friend when the captain kicked the door open. However, the boat’s captain later told police that Scott was with a woman in a bedroom and had been asked multiple times to leave. The captain reported that Scott had pushed him several times but chose not to press charges; he simply wanted Scott to exit the boat.
Scott’s Reaction to Police
As Scott and his entourage were being escorted from the marina, he began to raise his voice and threaten to “catch a fade,” a slang term for fighting. Scott was visibly upset and told officers that he was scared due to the large number of police around him. He said, “I got no weapons on me. Ya’ll scare me.” Scott also mentioned that he needed to return to the boat to retrieve his bag, despite having already told police he had no belongings left on the boat.
Escalation and Arrest
The police did not allow Scott to go back to the boat, stating that they had asked him multiple times if he had any items left behind. Scott had previously placed his backpack on the dock when first speaking with the officers and assured them he had nothing else on him. As tensions rose, Scott became increasingly agitated, accusing the police of wasting their time and expressing frustration about being arrested.
He shouted, “You’re really gonna lock me up after I was trying to get my bag?” and complained about the number of officers present, saying, “There’s 50 cops around me, bro.” His frustration escalated as he continued to raise his voice and wave his arms, leading to his arrest. An officer eventually cuffed Scott and escorted him to a police vehicle. Scott could be heard saying, “Why you gotta do this man? Come on, bruh,” as he was taken away.
Charge Dropped
Earlier this week, TMZ reported that the disorderly intoxication charge against Travis Scott has been dropped by the state. The decision came after the incident, and Scott has faced no further legal consequences related to this arrest.
