Trump Threatens BRICS Nations with 100% Tariffs Over Dollar Replacement Plans
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump issued a stern warning on Saturday, demanding that the BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and others—commit to not replacing the U.S. dollar in international trade. Trump made the declaration on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that if these countries attempt to create a new currency or back a currency to replace the U.S. dollar, they will face a hefty 100% tariff.
The threat extends to all BRICS nations, including Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Trump emphasized that these countries would no longer be allowed to sell goods into the U.S. economy if they pursue alternative currencies. He reinforced his position by saying, “There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. dollar in international trade, and any country that tries should wave goodbye to America.”
This warning follows comments by Brazilian President Inácio Luiz, who had previously suggested the development of a BRICS-supported currency to reduce vulnerabilities in foreign trade. Trump’s response was firm: any efforts by BRICS nations to undermine the U.S. dollar would be met with severe economic consequences.
