Varun Dhawan Cast in ‘Border 2’ Alongside Sunny Deol: “Dharti Maa Jab Bulati Hai”

In an Instagram post, Sunny Deol officially welcomed Varun Dhawan onboard ‘Border 2’. The film is scheduled for release during Republic Day, 2026.

On Friday, the Border 2 team officially announced that Varun Dhawan is joining the film’s cast. Sunny Deol leads the sequel to the 1997 hit. Sunny shared the news on social media with a video featuring Varun’s voice.

In the clip, Varun says, “I face every enemy bullet saying ‘Jai Hind’ and come running whenever Mother Earth calls.” The film is set to release on January 23, 2026, during the Republic Day weekend. There had been speculation about Varun joining the film, which is produced by JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. This will be Varun Dhawan’s first war drama.

Ayushmann Khurrana Exits Border 2 Due to Creative Differences; Diljit Dosanjh Considered for Role

Earlier reports said Ayushmann Khurrana was set to play a soldier in Border 2. However, he later decided not to join due to creative differences. A source told Mid-Day that Ayushmann was unsure about his role in a film led by Sunny Deol, a major star.

The report also mentioned that the makers are interested in having Diljit Dosanjh in the film. Although there’s no confirmation yet, Diljit, who is now an international star, was approached for a role. It would be exciting to see him and Sunny Deol together on screen, especially given their strong fan base in north India.

Border 2 will be directed by Anurag Singh, known for films like Kesari, Punjab 1984, Jatt & Juliet, and Dil Bole Hadippa! The film was announced on June 13, 2024, celebrating 27 years since the original Border and has been labeled as “India’s biggest war film” by the makers.

Varun Dhawan was recently seen in a cameo in Stree 2. Upcoming projects for him include Bhediya 2, Baby John, and an untitled film directed by his father, David Dhawan.
