- Captain Anshuman Singh is an Indian Army Medical Corp, 26th Battalion of the Punjab Regiment.
- He received the Kirti Chakra after he died because of his incredible bravery during a big fire in Siachen, which is one of India’s top awards for bravery in peacetime.
- Early life and education :He was born in 1997 in Bardiha Dalpat village, Uttar Pradesh, India. He went to Chail Military School in Himachal Pradesh and later Rashtriya Military School Chail for his schooling. He then studied at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, where he learned about military and high-altitude medicine as well as treating war injuries.After finishing his MBBS degree, he did a year-long internship in Agra. The Covid-19 pandemic caused his internship to be extended, but he stayed dedicated to his medical career despite the challenges.
- Career : He worked as a Medical Officer with the 26th Battalion, The Punjab Regiment. His duty took him to the Chandan Complex as part of Operation Meghdoot. Despite tough conditions and many challenges, he showed strong dedication to his duty.

- Capt Anshuman Singh was serving with the 403 Field Hospital of 26 Punjab Battalion in Siachen Glacier in July 2023.
- He was attached from 26 Madras and operated in an area that became inaccessible during winter months, with posts at heights exceeding 19,000 feet.
- The soldiers faced extreme risks due to the harsh terrain and severe weather conditions.
- Capt Anshuman Singh, as Regimental medical officer, was responsible for providing medical care to all troops in the area.
- Early on July 19, 2023, around 3 a.m., an ammunition stockpile caught fire at Chandan dropping zone.
- Upon hearing the call for help, Capt Anshuman rushed out of his Fibre Glass Hut to rescue trapped soldiers.
- Despite the danger, he ventured into the fire to save as many as possible.
- He successfully rescued four to five individuals from a nearby hut filling with smoke.
- While attempting to retrieve medical supplies from his hut, he became trapped as flames engulfed the shelter due to strong winds.
- Despite rescue efforts, he could not be saved, and his remains were recovered after the fire was extinguished.
