NEET 2024 controversies rise as a result of alleged Paper leak and political backlash

NEET 2024 , this messy situation is becoming a national controversy, and it’s getting worse. The ongoing investigations are revealing many problems. We have a lot of news to cover, but first, let’s focus on this mess. Students are protesting across the country, whether in Jantar Mantar in the capital or Coimbatore. People, including students, parents, and relatives, are upset because their hopes and dreams have been shattered by the results around 2024.

The courts are busy, and so are various coaching experts. Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Unit in Bihar is investigating a possible paper leak in the NEET exams held on May 5th. They suggest there might have been a leak, but Bihar police say it’s not clear if the recovered papers were leaked.

Sources say the paper might have been leaked during transportation. Bihar police also found burnt question papers, but the National Testing Agency has not confirmed this. Thirteen people have been arrested, including some candidates’ relatives and brokers.

This contrasts with the government’s stance. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan rejected claims of a paper leak in the NEET UG 2024 exam on June 13th. He said there’s no evidence to support these claims and assured that no student would be disadvantaged. However, he added that canceling the entire exam was unlikely.

What did Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan say about this?

The Supreme Court has made a decision about NEET. This year, 24 lakh students took the exam. Out of these, around 13 lakh students qualified. This time, NEET had two different question sets to avoid mistakes. The choice of which set to use was decided on the exam day itself.

During the exam, there was a mistake at 6 out of 4,500 centers where the wrong question set was given. Once the error was noticed, the correct question papers were distributed. However, this caused some time loss for the students at those centers.

About 1,563 students were affected by this mistake. They felt that it was unfair because they lost valuable time and thought something should be done for them.

Government’s NEET Exam Response

The minister tweeted that the central government is committed to protecting NEET examinees. He assured students that their concerns will be addressed fairly. No student will be at a disadvantage, and no child’s career will be at risk. The Supreme Court is aware of the facts related to the NEET exam, and the central government will act as directed by the court. The NEET counseling process will start soon, and it is important to move forward without confusion.

In response to recent issues, the union government agreed to cancel grace marks, which some see as an admission of their own ineptitude. This should not distract from core problems like irregularities and unprofessional conduct in exams. The DMK believes that states should have a role in deciding the selection method for MPPS courses.

Another concern is how candidates were allocated examination centers based on their choice. Questions have also been raised about giving grace marks to 1,563 students due to lost time. Was permission taken from the governing body of NDA, and who allowed these grace marks?

Mr. Vijay believes mistakes are inevitable in such a huge process. The important thing is to accept mistakes and find ways to prevent them in the future. It’s troubling when authorities first deny issues and then admit them only when they have no other choice.

Student Struggles and Exam Woes

When I talk to students, I see many conflicting emotions. Some students want the entire examination process to start over because they believe there might be other undiscovered issues. They think the NTIA only admitted to problems because they were caught.

On the other hand, some believe redoing the exams would be unfair to most students who have already paid and worked hard. It would add more pressure and expenses, especially since many come from middle-class families.
